Third-Generation Cephalosporin Antibiotic
KICEF 200 is a prescription antibiotic containing cefixime 200 mg. It may be prescribed for susceptible bacterial infections affecting the throat, urinary tract, tonsils, and respiratory system.
KICEF 200 contains cefixime 200 mg, a prescription cephalosporin antibiotic used against bacteria susceptible to this medicine. A doctor may prescribe it for uncomplicated urinary tract infections, bacterial throat or tonsil infections, and certain respiratory infections such as an acute worsening of chronic bronchitis. Cefixime works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall, which helps stop bacteria from surviving and multiplying. It does not work against viral illnesses such as colds or influenza. Treatment should begin only after medical evaluation, considering the organism, symptoms, local resistance patterns, and the patient’s health history.
Take KICEF 200 only in the dose and for the duration prescribed by a healthcare professional. The tablet may be taken with or without food, but taking it at the same time each day can help maintain a routine. Swallow it with water and do not change the schedule, stop early, share tablets, or use leftover medicine for another illness. Even when symptoms improve, complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist and avoid taking an extra dose to compensate. Incorrect or unnecessary antibiotic use can encourage resistant bacteria and make future infections harder to treat.
Before taking KICEF 200, inform the doctor about any allergy to cefixime, cephalosporins, penicillins, or other medicines. Also disclose kidney disease, liver problems, bleeding disorders, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and all medicines or supplements being used. Kidney impairment may require a different dose. Common side effects may include diarrhoea, nausea, loose stools, stomach pain, indigestion, flatulence, or vomiting. Seek urgent medical attention for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, fainting, blistering skin, or another serious allergic reaction. Contact a doctor promptly if diarrhoea becomes severe, persistent, watery, or bloody, because antibiotic-associated bowel inflammation can occur during treatment or after it ends. Tell the prescriber if carbamazepine, warfarin, or another anticoagulant is being taken, as monitoring may be required. Do not use this medicine for viral infections or without a prescription. Keep the tablets in their original packaging, protected from moisture and heat, and out of children’s reach. Follow the storage conditions and expiry date printed on the pack. The correct dose and duration depend on the infection, age, kidney function, medical history, and clinical response. This information is for general awareness and does not replace the product leaflet or advice from a doctor or pharmacist.
