Third-Generation Cephalosporin Antibiotic
KICEF 100 Dry Syrup is a prescription antibiotic containing cefixime. It may be prescribed for susceptible bacterial infections affecting the ears, throat, tonsils, urinary tract, and respiratory system in suitable patients.
KICEF 100 Dry Syrup contains cefixime, a prescription third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria. A doctor may prescribe it for bacterial infections affecting the ears, throat, tonsils, urinary tract, or respiratory system. Cefixime works by disrupting formation of the bacterial cell wall, helping stop bacteria from surviving and multiplying. It does not treat colds, influenza, or other viral illnesses. Treatment should begin only after medical evaluation because the correct dose depends on body weight, age, kidney function, infection severity, and the concentration prepared after reconstitution.
Use KICEF 100 Dry Syrup exactly as prescribed by a healthcare professional. Reconstitute the dry powder with the correct amount of water according to the product label or a pharmacist’s instructions. Shake the bottle well before every dose so the medicine is mixed evenly, and measure it with an oral syringe, calibrated cup, or medicine spoon rather than a household spoon. Give each dose at the recommended time and complete the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve earlier. Do not double a missed dose, share the medicine, or reuse leftover suspension for another illness without medical advice. Different cefixime strengths should not be substituted without professional guidance.
Before using KICEF 100 Dry Syrup, inform the doctor about any allergy to cefixime, other cephalosporins, or penicillins. Also disclose kidney disease, intestinal conditions such as colitis, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and all medicines or supplements being used. Kidney impairment may require dose adjustment. Common side effects can include diarrhoea, nausea, loose stools, stomach pain, indigestion, gas, or vomiting. Seek urgent medical attention for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, fainting, or a rash with blistering or peeling skin. Contact a doctor promptly for persistent, watery, or bloody diarrhoea, severe abdominal cramps, fever, or worsening symptoms. Tell the prescriber if carbamazepine, warfarin, or another anticoagulant is being taken because monitoring may be needed. Store the dry powder and prepared suspension as directed on the label, keep the bottle tightly closed, and shake well before use. Discard remaining suspension after the period stated by the manufacturer or pharmacist. Keep it away from children and do not use it after the expiry date. Antibiotics should be used only for confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infections, as unnecessary use or incomplete treatment can promote resistance. This information is for general awareness and does not replace advice from a doctor or pharmacist.
